Wingfoil Masters Sylt - May 2026
Update 1: Report on days 1 and 2 at Brandenburg Beach - Westerland, Germany
Over the Ascension Day weekend, Sylt will host a California Wingfoil Masters event as part of the Summer Opening, featuring competitions in the three wing foil disciplines of freestyle, wave, and slalom.
May 14, 2026 - The contest kicked off right on the first day, with the freestylers getting to show off their skills on the water off Brandenburg Beach in Westerland.
Jonte Boysen took first place. The Duotone rider impressed the judges in the decisive heats. Jonte had already turned heads last season with strong performances, including podium finishes in the junior division at the Wingfoil Masters on Sylt. Now, he has achieved major success in freestyle in Westerland.
Jared Wegner (Duotone) took second place, impressing the crowd with creative trick combinations and daring moves. Third place went to Hubert Christahl (Duotone). The young rider has been one of the top talents on the German wing foil scene for years and had already made a name for himself at the California Wingfoil Masters as the German champion in the junior class. Fourth place went to Lönne Jensen (KT).
Piet Katenkamp (Core), Julian Furkmann (Naish, Prolimit), Pit Hausberg (Duotone), and Wilhelm Christahl (Duotone) are tied for fifth place.
May 15, 2026 - The wave discipline was actually supposed to start on the second day. Unfortunately, however, the waves turned out to be a bit too big. The U15 juniors, in particular, had a hard time battling through the massive shorebreak.
As a result, the wave elimination had to be repeatedly interrupted and postponed. Since the waves didn’t subside even as the tide went out in the evening, the race committee decided to release the riders for Friday. The focus then shifted to the weekend, which promised stormy conditions on Saturday and more moderate conditions again on Sunday.
